FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team closed out the regular season on Wednesday night at chilly Bobcat Stadium with a 1-0 shutout of Penn State Harrisburg.
Junior Brooke Shehade scored for the first time in eight games when she connected on a left footed attempt from just outside the seven-yard box.
The sequence started when senior Hailey Turney had her shot saved by Harrisburg keeper by Kayla Arnold. Shehade corralled the rebound and scored for the game's only goal.
The win for Frostburg improved its record to 5-10-1 overall and earned Frostburg a home playoff game in the upcoming CAC Tournament.
The Bobcats moved into the fourth seed in the tournament with the victory and will host fifth-seeded Salisbury on Saturday. The time for the matchup will be announced on Thursday.
Shehade's game-winner came at 25:00 and was one of eight shots on goal in the opening half.
Junior Gwenn Schemm had a free kick at 34:37 saved by Arnold and Schemm had another attempt in the 39th minute saved by Arnold.
The Lions' (8-10-1, 2-4) best opportunity in the game came 6:33 into the second stanza as a cross was headed off the crossbar by Eden Haldeman. PSH later had a clean look from the right side of the goal but Bailey Smith's left footed attempt just missed the at 60:43.
Bobcat senior keeper Rhianna Lapen notched just one save for the win, while Arnold finished with nine saves and did her part to kelp keep her team within striking distance.
In total, FSU outshot Harrisburg 17-4.
