Bobcats Earn Home Playoff Match With Road Tie

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team earned a draw on the road against Penn State-Harrisburg, 1-1 on Wednesday afternoon in their final regular season match, clinching a home CAC playoff matchup.

The Lions made their first shot of the match count, as freshman midfielder Aaron Cummings scored the game's first goal three minutes into action, beating Frostburg first-year goalkeeper Luke Sweeney.

FSU would respond with a goal of its own in the 21st minute of play, as sophomore midfielder Randy Putnam took a pass from classmate Mo Odolla and deposited it in the back of the net to even the score, 1-1. The goal was Putnam's fifth of the season, giving him the team lead in the category.

The score would remain tied going into halftime. The two teams would go into the intermission with three shots each, with the Lions edging the Bobcats in shots on target, 2-1.

Penn State-Harrisburg started the second half off quickly as senior midfielder Ethan Hoover attempted a shot 35 seconds into the half, which was saved by Sweeney. Sweeney made another save shortly after, blocking a shot off the foot of Cummings to keep the score deadlocked at one.

The second half ended without either team breaking the tie and both squads headed into overtime. At the end of regulation, the Bobcats had six shots, two on goal while the Lions took nine shots, five on target.

The Lions again took a shot in the opening minute of the period, as Hoover let a shot loose 43 seconds into overtime that sailed wide left. The Bobcats took their first and only shot of the extra period in the 97th minute as sophomore Logan Imbragulio let a shot rip that tailed to the left. FSU had another opportunity with 1:58 left in the period as it was awarded a corner kick, but it came up empty and the score remained 1-1 at the end of the first overtime period.

There was one shot attempted in the second overtime period, and it came with 20 seconds left on the clock. Penn State-Harrisburg's sophomore forward Joey Aman tried to put a header into the goal, but it went wide left and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Lions held a 13-7 shot advantage, with five shots being on goal while the Bobcats had two shots on target. Sweeney led the game with four saves in his first career start at the collegiate level. Putnam had both of the Bobcats shots on goal while the Lions' Cummings led the game with four total shots.

Frostburg (6-8-3, 3-2-3) will next take the field on Saturday, October 27 when it hosts a CAC Tournament first round game against York (Pa.) at Bobcat Stadium. The time will be announced tomorrow morning.
