ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Frostburg State volleyball team went the distance against St. Mary's, but fell in the fifth set in a Saturday afternoon road match.
The Seahawks took the first set, 25-23 over the Bobcats. Juniors Biamba Tshitenge and Bailey Godlove each led the team with four kills, with Tshitenge adding a block in the set.
The Bobcats evened the match after winning the second set, 25-18. Godlove and sophomore Rachel Snead both had three kills to lead FSU to the set victory.
St. Mary's took the lead again after winning the third set, 25-23. Junior libero Cori Smothers collected 12 digs in the set for the Bobcats and Tshitenge led the team with six kills.
Frostburg took the fourth set, 25-18, evening the match at two sets apiece for the two conference rivals. Junior Ashante Corey-Bey had four kills in the set while first-year Haley Altemus had four kills of her own along with three digs.
The Seahawks took the fifth and deciding set, 15-10 to clinch their first conference win of the season.
Tshitenge led the Bobcats in kills, collecting 15 in the effort. Smothers led the team with 35 digs while junior Katie Onyundo had 23 digs and a team-high 53 assists.
Frostburg's record now sits at 9-20, 1-4 in conference play, while the Seahawks increase to 13-15, 1-5 against CAC opponents.
The Bobcats' next game will take place on Wednesday, October 24 when they take on Penn State-Harrisburg at home at 7:00 p.m.
