FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg men's and women's swimming teams cruised to wins over Goucher at Bobcat Natatorium, Saturday.
The Bobcat men defeated the visiting Gophers, 165-81, while the women posted a 173-86 victory. Both Bobcats teams opened the meet and closed the afternoon with relay wins and in between, 14 different swimmers captured a win in the meet.
The 400-meter medley relay team of senior Emily Turner, senior Maddie Weinberger, junior Elizabeth Demonte and first-year Haley Benedictis set the tone for the rest of the meet by winning with a school record time of 4:45.22.
The men's 400-meter medley relay team of first-year Cameron Edwards, sophomore Anthony Giuseppetti, sophomore Brady Peterson and first-year Luke Russell took home the win in 4:27.27.
On the men's side, four swimmers collected two individual wins.
First-year Adam Stein took home the 400 (4:42.18) and 800-meter freestyle (9:40.32), Holloway won both the 100-meter breaststroke (1:13.24) and the 200-meter freestyle (2:08.02), Peterson took home the 50 (28.42) and 100-meter butterfly (1:04.33) wins, while Russell won both the 50 (25.87) and 100-meter freestyle (1:01.27).
Giuseppetti swam to a victory in the 100-meter backstroke (1:23.83), junior Hunter McFalls won the 50-meter backstroke (31.50), while sophomore Connor Gioffreda captured another US Paralympic Record in the 200-meter IM in 3:15.17.
The team of Giuseppetti, Russell, Peterson and Holloway closed the meet with another win, this time in the 400-meter freestyle relay in 3:57.20.
The tandem of Turner and Weinberger powered the women with two wins each. Turner captured wins in the 50 (27.84) and 100-meter backstrokes (1:14.09), while Weinberger won the 50-meter breaststroke (35.36) and the 200-meter IM (2:39.17).
Junior Becca Marsh posted a win in the 800-meter freestyle (10:25.85), first-year Aubree Morris won the 100-meter butterfly (1:12.46) and Demonte finished first in the 50-meter freestyle (28.38).
First-year Rebecca Proctor picked up the victory in the 100-meter freestyle and Benedictis won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:23.83.
Turner, Weinberger, Benedictis and Morris posted the final win of the afternoon for the women by taking the gold in the 400-meter freestyle relay in 4:30.69.
Frostburg returns to the pool this Friday night at Mary Washington at 5:00 pm.
