Hat Tricks From Kemal And Lakanu Lead Bobcats Past Knights

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team shut out conference opponent Southern Virginia on Wednesday night, 8-0 behind hat tricks from senior Alferid Kemal and sophomore Andre Lakanu.

The dominating victory marks the second time that Frostburg has defeated Southern Virginia by the count of 8-0. The Bobcats closed the 2015 season with another 8-0 win over SVU.
 
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as sophomore midfielder Randy Putnam headed a pass from classmate Punya Saleekul into the back of the net, 50 seconds into the game. FSU added their second score on Kemal's first goal with 30 minutes left on the first-half clock.
 
The Bobcats shot the ball 16 times in the opening half, 12 of which were on target, while the Knights mustered three shots, all of which were saved by first-year goalkeeper, Joel Assal.
 
The Bobcats continued their offensive assault in the second half, taking 23 shots with 14 on net. FSU scored three times in a matter of two minutes. The attack started in the 64th minute of action, as Kemal added his second goal of the game, beating Knights goalkeeper Jacob Solis for the score. Shortly after assisting Kemal's goal, Putnam scored his second of the match, taking a pass from first-year Camilo Ortiz and depositing into the net. Kemal then put the finishing touches on his hat trick in the 66th minute with an unassisted goal to give the Bobcats a 5-0 lead.
 
Lakanu added his three goals in the final minutes of the match to cap off the 8-0 victory. Two of his goals were assisted by first-year Kaps Kapende and one assisted by sophomore Logan Imbraguglio.
 
Overall, the Bobcats had 39 total shots with 21 on target while the Knights were held to six shots, three of which were on goal. Kemal, Lakanu and Putnam all led the game with six shots each while Solis collected 13 saves for the Knights.
 
FSU (5-8-2, 2-2-1) will next take the field on Saturday, October 20 at 3:00 p.m. when they take on York College on the road.
