Bobcats Fall to McDaniel 3-2 in Double OT

WESTMINSTER, Md. – On Wednesday night the Frostburg State field hockey team fell to the McDaniel College Green Terror 3-2 after two over time periods.  

The Bobcats fall to 2-13 overall while the Green Terror advance to 4-10 overall.

Early on in the first half junior Logan Gladden posted the Bobcats first shot of the night at 5:22 with a save by McDaniel goalkeeper Paige Ford.

Shortly after, the Green Terror found the back of the cage at 13:57 with a shot by Madison Jamison.

Sophomore Bobcat Gabby Rachuba found the equalizer at the last minute of the first half from first-year Taylor Hackett at 35:00.

Throughout the first half Bobcat junior goalkeeper, Sierra Smizer collected two saves. The Bobcats had five shots.

In the second half, senior Bobcat Holly Van Wie was awarded a penalty stroke at 42:00 that was then saved by the Green Terror goalkeeper Paige Ford.

About five minutes later, McDaniel's Emily Farrell tipped in a shot from the top to put the Green Terror ahead 2-1.

At 55:43, McDaniel was awarded a penalty stroke that was then saved by Smizer.

A late goal at 67:24 by Frostburg senior Holly Van Wie evened the game at 2-2 to send the game into overtime.

The first overtime period collected four total shots collectively but resulted in no goals. Shots by Myers and senior Cara Morrell powered the Bobcats during the ten-minute play.

The second overtime period opened with a shot by Frostburg sophomore Gabby Rachuba that was kicked away.

A minute later at 82:32 a breakaway by McDaniel Madison Jamison would put the Green Terror over the Bobcats 3-2.

Junior goalkeeper Sierra Smizer saw over 80 minutes of action with five saves.

Frostburg dominated the Green Terror in penalty corners 13-7.

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday against No. 14 Christopher Newport at 11:00 am.
