BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team earned a 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference victory at Southern Virginia on Wednesday evening. The offensive outburst was keyed by three goals by junior midfielder Jesse Dunagan.
With the win, the Bobcats improved to 4-9-1 overall with a 2-2-1 record in conference play.
Frostburg set season-highs in goals, assists and shots in the triumph. The Bobcats outshot the Knights 25-11 on the evening, with 12 attempts on goal.
FSU began the scoring in the 13
th minute when senior Hailey Turney connected with Dunagan on a cross in front of the net, who fired home her first goal of the evening.
Just over 15 minutes later, junior Brooke Shehade found an opening and attempted a shot that was deflected by the Knights' goalkeeper, however Shehade recovered the ball and found Dunagan for her second goal of the match.
In the waning moments of the first half, Shehade sent a corner kick into the box where senior Melissa Krofcheck headed home her first goal of the season to give the Bobcats a 3-0 halftime advantage.
In the 55
th minute, Dunagan completed the hat trick by burying a feed from Shehade again to give the Bobcats a season-high four goals.
The combination of senior goalkeeper Rhianna Lapen and first-year Stephanie Vigezzi contributed to shutout. Lapen recorded four saves, including two early stops in the third and 11
th minutes. Vigezzi played the final 20:36 and registered one save in the final minute.
Shehade finished the evening with a career-best three assists in her third multiple-assist effort in a Bobcat Uniform. She also led the Bobcats with 10 shots with four on target. Dunagan fired six shots on the evening and registered the Bobcats' first hat trick since Haley Dalphon scored three goals against Wesley in 2016.
Only two games remain in Frostburg's regular-season schedule, and the Bobcats are on the road again this weekend as they travel to York (Pa.) on Saturday for a noon start.
