FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team competed against Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) opponent St. Mary's (Md.) for 110 minutes, but neither side was able to register a goal as the game ended in a scoreless tie.
It's the second-consecutive season that the annual conference matchup between the Bobcats (3-9-1, 1-2-1 CAC) and Seahawks (6-8-1, 1-2-1) ended in a scoreless tie.
The Bobcats were the aggressors in the evening, firing 22 shots with 11 on target while St. Mary's attempted 11 shots with two on frame.
The Bobcats outshot St. Mary's 13-7 in regulation and held a 7-1 edge in shots on goal through the first 90 minutes.
In the first overtime period Frostburg created several opportunities and fired five shots, two of which were saved and three that missed high.
In the second overtime period, St. Mary's Emily Huey found and opening and fired a shot in the 104
th minute but was saved by senior goalkeeper Rhianna Lapen. Less than two minutes later, senior defender Anais Ventura broke free for a chance, but narrowly missed over the top of the goal.
Junior Brooke Shehade nearly outshot the Seahawks by herself, registering nine shots with five on net. She had an on-target attempt in the third minute thwarted by St. Mary's keeper Katie Flores. Flores turned away another of Shehade's attempts in the 34
th and 68
th minutes in regulation. Shehade aimed attempts on goal in the first and final minutes of the second overtime, but each shot was saved.
The Bobcats continue conference play on Wednesday evening at Southern Virginia at 5:00 p.m.
