FROSTBURG, Md. – Eighth-ranked Mary Washington scored two goals in the second half on its way to a 2-0 win over Frostburg State, Wednesday night.
The game, which had a delayed start because of traffic on the nearby interstate, saw a scoreless first half as the two teams combined for seven shots.

Frostburg had its best chance for a goal in the 29
th minute when a streaking Cameron Coates received a long pass from sophomore Mo Odella. Coates took a couple dribbles towards the UMW net, but keeper Ken Kurtz came off his line to knock away the ball and keep the game scoreless.
Assal made another key save with just over 11 minutes to go in the first half when he stopped a shot from the right side of the net from the Eagles' Noah Mazzatenta.
Mary Washington broke through with its first goal 6:20 into the second half when Gary Foley sent a free kick into the box that was headed home by Carey for a 1-0 cushion.
Frostburg had another two chances 19 minutes into the second half when sophomore Randy Putnam hit a curving shot from the right side of the 18 that was over the head of Kurtz. However, the shot curled into the far post and ricocheted back into the field of play.
FSU followed up Putnam's shot with an attempt from first-year Trevor Namie from directly in front of the net that was denied by Kurtz.
The Eagles' (9-0-2, 2-0-1) second goal came on a penalty kick in the 74
th minute. Frostburg (4-8-1, 1-2) was whistled for a foul inside the 18 and Foley connected on the PK for a 2-0 lead.
Putnam led the Bobcats with four of the team's six shots and Assal totaled four saves in the loss.
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday when it hosts St. Mary's at 7:00 pm for senior day.
