Bobcats Drop League Tilt To Rival Salisbury

FROSTBURG, Md. – Sophomore Daniel Alexander scored 18 points to lead Frostburg and junior Edwin Cole grabbed 10 rebounds as the Bobcats endured a 79-57 loss at home to rival Salisbury, Saturday.
 
Alexander's 18 points mark the fifth-consecutive game in which he has scored in double figures, while Cole's 10 boards is the eighth time this winter that he has grabbed 10 or more in contest.
 
The loss drops the Bobcats to 5-8 overall and 3-3 in the CAC while the Sea Gulls improved their overall mark to 8-5 and 4-2 in the league.
 
A late first-half run for Salisbury gave it control at halftime and momentum heading into the second period.
 
The host Bobcats overcame a 10-point deficit midway through the first half to pull within two, 24-22 with 5:11 to play. Cole slammed home a dunk at 5:48 and on the ensuing trip down the floor, he hit a layup that pulled FSU to within two.
 
Salisbury answered with a three-pointer at 4:27 and it closed the first half on an 18-4 run to lead by 14, 42-28 at the half.
 
Cole hit another layup 1:36 into the second half, Alexander knocked down a jumper at 17:29 and both baskets pulled Frostburg to within 10 points.
 
A pair of three-pointers moments later from SU pushed its lead to 15 and James Foley dunked home two more points with 6:45 showing as the Sea Gulls led by 21, 71-50. A pair of free throws with 3:07 left to play pushed the visitor lead to a game-high 26, 78-85.
 
Junior Desmond Lighty capped the afternoon with a three-pointer as Frostburg closed the final gap to 22, 79-57.
 
Salisbury finished with three players in double figures, while its bench scored 42 of its 79 points. Foley played 15 minutes off the bench for the Gulls and led all players with 22 points. Chad Barcikowski added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
 
To go along with his 10 rebounds, Cole added eight points, while senior Tyler Michael finished with nine points.
 
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday at Mary Washington at 8:00 pm.
