Bobcat Men Win third Straight

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Frostburg men's basketball team rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to collect its third-straight win Wednesday with a 78-72 victory over Penn State Harrisburg.
 
The Bobcats push their overall record to 10-10 with their third-consecutive win and sixth win in their last nine contests. The victory also keeps Frostburg in fifth place in the league standings (8-5) and completes the regular-season sweep of the Lions (6-14, 2-11).
 
Frostburg has shot over 50 percent from the floor in the last two games and tonight it knocked down 11 three-pointers and outscored the hosts 47-35 in the decisive second half.
 
FSU trailed by 11 points six minutes into the second half and used a 9-1 run to crawl back to within three, 53-50.
 
Penn State Harrisburg pushed its lead back to seven after Frostburg's run for a 57-50 cushion, but the Bobcats collected a 10-2 outburst for their first lead since 6:26 showed on the first half clock. Sophomore Lawrence Pettis, Jr. hit a three-pointer with 6:36 to play for the 60-59 advantage.
 
Chris Bing hit a layup at 5:30 as PSH briefly led by one, but Pettis, Jr. hit another three and Frostburg never trailed again.
 
Pettis, Jr.'s fifth and final three-pointer of the evening gave Frostburg a seven-point cushion, 70-63 with just 3:20 to play.
 
The Bobcats connected on 8-of-10 free throws inside the final 1:03 as the Lions resorted to fouling down the stretch.
 
Pettis led Frostburg in scoring for the fourth time in the last five games as he finished with 21 points. All five of his baskets came from behind the three-point arc and he added six free throws and five assists.
 
Sophomore Daniel Alexander scored 14, senior Tyler Michael added 12 and junior Edwin Cole contributed 11. Alexander, Cole and Michael all paced the team with seven rebounds.
 
Frostburg led by as many as eight points in the first half when Cole hit a foul shot at 13:16. Frostburg clung to its lead for much of the opening half and senior Dalton Gaus hit a three-pointer at 8:07 as FSU led 22-18.
 
The Lions rebounded for the halftime lead after collecting an 11-0 run following Gaus' three. Trent Thomas closed the first half for the hosts with a jumper for a 37-31 lead at the break.
 
Kahlil Williams led all players with 23 points for Harrisburg, while Bing added 15.
 
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday at Salisbury at 3:00 pm.
