Frostburg Swimming Sweeps Bethany (W. Va.) and Salem

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's and women's swimming teams dominated in their meet collecting two wins each at home, Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcat men posted wins over Bethany (W.Va.) (92-27) and Salem (87-34), while the women defeated Bethany (99-18) and Salem (106-9).

Frostburg's men's team posted 11 wins out of 14 events, meanwhile, the women posted 12 wins out of the 14 events.

The senior dynamic duo of Christian March and Macey Nitchie both swept their two individual events as March won the 50-meter freestyle (24.53) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:06.93), while Nitchie placed first in the 50 (28:41) and 200-meter freestyles (2:14.35).  Nitchie has now swept her individual events eight out of the nine meets on the season.

The Bobcat men's and women's 400-meter freestyle relay teams both set school records in the event. For the men, March, first-year Scott Walton, first-year Anthony Giuseppetti, and first-year Luke Holloway set the record at 3:44.33 breaking a record that had been held since 2003. On the women's side, junior Maddie Weinberger, sophomore Rebecca Marsh, junior Emily Turner and Nitchie broke their old school record with a time of 4:21.80.

First-year Connor Gioffreda had an impressive day as he set three American Paralympic records in the 100-meter butterfly (1:26.83), 400-meter freestyle (6:05.82) and the 800-meter freestyle (12:23.83).

Weinberger found herself with two first-place finishes in the 50 and 100-meter breaststroke with times of 35.84 and 1:19.56, respectively, while Marsh swam her way to victory in the 100 (1:05.89) and 400-meter freestyles (5:00.82).  

First-year Taylor Stanback finished the day with two wins in the 100-meter butterfly at a time of 1:15.41 and the 800-meter freestyle at 10:42.36, as Turner finished first in the 50-meter backstroke (34.39) and the 50-meter butterfly (33.21).

Walton swam his way to a first-place victory in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 34:09, while first-year Sawyer Conklin took home first in the 800-meter freestyle at 9:44.60.

Holloway and first-year Brady Peterson both collected two wins as Holloway finished first in the 100-meter IM (1:07.87) and the 200-meter freestyle (2:03.20), while Peterson won the 50 (29.42) and 100-meter butterfly (1:06.03).

Giuseppetti earned a first-place finish in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 29.88.

The women's 200-meter medley relay team of Turner, Weinberger, Stanback and Nitchie placed first with a time of 2:12.95, while the men's 200-meter medley team of Giuseppetti, March, Peterson and Holloway swam to victory with a time of 1:52.71.

The Bobcats return to the pool Friday as they travel to Elizabethtown at 6:00 p.m.
