DOVER, Del. – Senior Tyler Michael secured 25 points and seven rebounds, but the Frostburg State men's basketball team was unable to fend off an inspired second half effort by Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) opponent Wesley in a 72-51 defeat Saturday afternoon at Wentworth Gymnasium.
 
Frostburg (6-9, 4-4 CAC) was limited to 19-for-65 (29.2%) from the field but outrebounded Wesley (7-8, 3-5 CAC) 44-43.
 
The Bobcats did not connect on a three-pointer in the first half (0-for-11) and were held to a season-low 51 points. The Wolverines took control of the contest in the second stanza, going 15-for-32 (46.9%) from the floor in the second half.
 
For Michael, his 25 points came on a 10-for-20 shooting effort, including 3-for-9 from three-point range. The Cresaptown, Md. native has recorded double digit scoring outputs in 12 games this season.  
 
Sophomore guard Daniel Alexander added nine points and four rebounds while junior forward Edwin Cole contributed seven points and a season-high 15 rebounds. Cole has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in three straight contests and is now averaging a double-double (10.4 PPG, 10.1 RPG) on the season through 15 games.
 
Michael converted a jumper that tied the game at eight with 13:33 showing on the first half clock. The Bobcats looked to close the gap later in the first half with an Alexander layup that brought the deficit to just two (21-19) with 4:16 left. Michael later trimmed the deficit to one (23-22) with a layup at 2:57. Wesley maintained the lead throughout a back-and-forth first half, taking a 28-26 edge into the locker room.
 
A three from Michael at 15:07 in the second half handed the Bobcats a slim 36-35 edge before another three from Michael at 14:17 put the visitors up 39-37. Senior guard Darren Campbell made the final three of the afternoon for Frostburg at 12:20 to give the Bobcats a 44-42 lead.
 
Wesley responded with a timely 13-1 scoring spurt that put the Wolverines ahead by double digits, 55-45. The Wolverines would eventually pull away for the 72-51 final.  
 
Brian Cameron paced the Wolverines with a game-high 26 points while JW Lawson poured in 11.
 
Frostburg looks to bounce back on Wednesday, January 17 at home against Southern Virginia. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. and the conference matchup begins the first of three straight home games for the Bobcats.
