ANVILLE, Pa. – Frostburg concluded the weekend with a pair of matches in the Dutchmen Quad and earned a split against Misericordia and Lebanon Valley, Saturday.
Match One: Misericordia
The Bobcats rolled in the fifth set for a narrow 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 25-16, 22-25, 15-10) win against Misericordia to begin the day. It was the second five-set win for FSU in as many matches after it defeated Neumann last night, 3-2.
Senior Zoe Harris led the charge at the net with 10 kills, while seniors Naya Cheatem and Karli Grimes each had seven.
Senior Madelyn Torres finished with 34 assists, while a trio of Bobcats posted 10 or more digs. Senior Lindsey Scepura registered 19 digs, while sophomores Kathryn Lough and Cori Smothers each had 10.
Match Two: Lebanon Valley
Frostburg played its final match of the day in the Dutchmen Quad against host Lebanon Valley and suffered a 3-0 (10-25, 24-26, 24-26) defeat.
Tshitenge led the way for the Bobcats in kills (9) and aces (2), while Torres dished out 18 assists.
The Bobcats and Dutchmen played two extremely competitive sets to end the day. Frostburg held the edge at various points throughout the final two sets.
Neither team could pull away in the second set. Trailing 9-5, Frostburg used kills from Harris and Jessica Bugtong to score six of seven points and take an 11-10 lead. LVC eventually smacked four-straight kills to end the match and secure the 26-24 victory.
Frostburg held the edge in play for much of the final set, opening with a 10-4 lead that eventually became a 17-8 edge. LVC used an eight-point scoring run to cut the Bobcat advantage to one (20-19) and ultimately closed out the match with a service ace.
