Women’s Soccer Downs Wesley in CAC Opener

DOVER, Del. – Frostburg State used a three-goal outburst to secure a convincing 3-1 win over Wesley in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) women's soccer action Saturday night at Miller Stadium.
 
Wesley (3-3-1, 0-1-0) tallied the first goal just 32 seconds into the game when Aleya Cummings launched a shot from 15 yards out over freshman goalkeeper Jenny Bullers to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead.
 
Frostburg (2-6-0, 1-0-0) would respond in a big way by scoring a season-high three goals.
 
Frostburg held a decisive edge in shots (19-2), shots on goal (8-1) and corners (9-0).
 
Junior forward Danielle Ferris took a pass from sophomore Brooke Shehade and notched the equalizer the 10th minute. It was Ferris' second goal of the season.

Sophomore midfielder Gwen Schemm scored her first goal of the 2017 campaign in the 35th minute to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission. Junior defender Anais Ventura and Shehade handed out the assists on the Bobcats' go-ahead tally.
 
Shehade provided the Bobcats with an insurance goal in the 85th minute to give the Bobcats a 3-1 cushion. It was a reversal of roles from the first goal as Schemm dished out the assist for Shehade's third goal of the year.
 
Overall, six Bobcats registered a shot and four had at least one point.
 
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday, September 27 against Gettysburg for a 7:00 p.m. nonconference road matchup.
