Field Hockey Drops Non-Conference Road Game At Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va.- Senior goalkeeper Nicole Leighty made 14 saves on the afternoon, but the Bridgewater offense found the back of the net on four occasions as the Frostburg field hockey team fell on the road, 4-1.
 
The lone goal of the game for FSU came from a penalty corner 9:18 into the second half. With the Bobcats trailing 2-0, junior Cara Morrell found freshman Brooke Lafayette who ripped a shot toward the cage that was deflected home by junior Holly Van Wie for her fourth goal of the season.
 
The Bobcats (3-5) managed to generate six shots in total for the match, four of which were on goal. The Eagles (2-6) totaled 22 shots for the game, 18 of those called Leighty into action.
 
Senior Savannah Neubert kept the game scoreless at the 11:52 mark as she swept a rebound opportunity off of the line from the stick of Elizabeth Washington.
 
Bridgewater opened the scoring 25:13 into the first half when Laura Gretz took a pass off of a penalty corner from Washington and knocked it home for the 1-0 lead.
 
Gretz would score her second of the match early in the second half and Tessa Tierson would add would add two more in a 1:44 span to put the Bobcats away.
 
Bridgewater topped Frostburg on penalty corners on the afternoon by a 10-6 margin.
 
The Bobcats return to the field on Wednesday when they host Juniata College at 4:00 p.m.
