Wooster Rallies Past Frostburg State University

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team scored in the 12th minute against Wooster on Saturday afternoon, but the Fighting Scots scored three unanswered goals to defeat the Bobcats 3-1 at Carnegie Mellon University.

The Bobcats drop to 0-2 on the campaign despite sophomore Brooke Shehade scoring in the 12th minute. She maneuvered around her defender and hit a shot to the near post that found the net for the 1-0 cushion at 11:40.

Less than five minutes later, the Bobcats had a chance to add to their lead, but a shot from senior Melanie Bell was turned away by Wooster keeper Maddy Ireton.

Late in the first half, Wooster's Kelsey Hall took a corner kick that found Krissy Blanchard for a near post goal that evened things at one with 30 seconds left in the half.

Wooster held a 5-2 edge in shots in the first frame, while Frostburg held a 4-1 lead in corners.

The second half saw the Fighting Scots score two goals within a three-minute span. Krenare Rakoci knocked home a left-footed shot at 50:38 to the low far post for a 2-1 lead.

At 53:23, Erica White connected on a header off a free kick to set the final at 3-1.

In the 52nd minute prior to Rakoci's goal, sophomore Gwen Schemm ripped a shot high of the net that would have given the Bobcats a 2-1 advantage, while in the 79th minute, Bell attempted a header that sailed wide of the net.

Wooster outshot the Bobcats 9-4 and Frostburg finished with a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Freshman Jenny Bullers played the first half in goal for Frostburg, notching two saves, while junior Emily Faust played the final 45 and stopped one shot.

FSU returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Washington & Jefferson at 7:00 pm.
