FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 overtime loss to The Catholic University of America, Tuesday night.
The Bobcats started off the game down 1-0, when Catholic's Bella Bertoncini found a hole in the defense and put the ball in the back of the net at the 0:38 mark.
Junior Danielle Ferris had the Bobcats' first opportunity with a two-on-one, but was denied by the Cardinal's Ally Marcello. At the 7:51 mark Ferris had another great attempt but was blocked by a diving Marcello.
In the 34
th minute freshman Jenny Bullers had an impressive diving save to her right, to keep the game in reach. Bullers finished the game with five saves.
Right before half, sophomore Brooke Shehade had a breakaway down the right side and put the ball past Marcello to tie the game 1-1. Assist on the goal was credited to freshman Helen Francis.
A shot from the Cardinal's Maggie Moorcones just made it by Bullers at the 49:47 mark to give Catholic a 2-1 lead.
But, the Bobcats fought back in the 58
th minute, Ferris easily found the back of the net off her own rebounded attempt that deflected off the goalie.
In, overtime Catholic's Jillian Sudo ended the game on a shot that was chipped just over the head of Bullers to find the goal.
Frostburg State was unable to muster a shot attempt in overtime.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday the 23
rd as the travel to Wesley. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
