Bobcats Earn Split; Cheatem Takes All-Tournament Honors

WOOSTER, Ohio – Frostburg State posted a split with Capital and Pitt-Bradford on the final day of the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic on Saturday afternoon, while Bobcat senior Naya Cheateam took home all-tournament honors.
 
The Bobcats settle at 9-4 overall on the season after falling to Capital 3-0 and defeating Pitt-Bradford 3-1.
 
Cheatem earned all-tournament honors after pounding 33 kills and posting 11 digs in four matches at the classic. On Saturday, Cheatem finished with 16 kills, four digs and a block.
 
Match One: Capital 
FSU hung tough in the first two games against the Crusaders keeping the final score within three points at 25-22 and 25-23.
 
Capital pulled away in the third and match-closing set by winning 25-15.
 
Cheatem smacked six kills, while senior Madelyn Torres dished out 11 assists and senior Lindsey Scepura had 17 digs.
 
Sophomore Katie Onyundo also had 11 assists to go along with three digs.
 
Capital limited the Bobcats to a .098 hitting percentage for the match.
 
Match Two: Pitt-Bradford
In their second match of the afternoon, the Bobcats rallied from an early hole to down Pitt-Bradford in four sets. The Panthers took the first set 25-22 but the Bobcats stormed back to win 25-20, 25-23, 25-15.
 
Frostburg received contributions from throughout the roster in the 3-1 victory. Sophomore Ashante Corey-Bey paced the Bobcats with 14 kills, while sophomore Biamba Tshitenge (12) and Cheatem (10) also finished with double-digit kills.
 
Torres notched three aces and Onyundo handed out 23 assists. Sophomore Cori Smothers led the team with 18 digs and senior Karli Grimes had 10 digs.
 
Frostburg outscored the Panthers 68-55 and held an 11-6 edge in aces. The Bobcats also smacked 52 kills compared to the panthers 47.

Frostburg returns to the court Wednesday, September 20 for a road match at Catholic beginning at 6:00 p.m.
