Men’s Soccer Collects Road Win

ALTOONA, Pa. – Three different players scored for Frostburg as it collected a 3-2 road win over Penn State Altoona, Wednesday evening.

The win was the first of the season for the Bobcats as they improve their record at 1-3-2, while the Lions slip to 1-4 overall.

Senior Rodrigo Valenzuela and sophomore K.J. Davis each scored for the first time this season and sophomore Josh McRobie found the net for the second time this fall campaign.  All three Frostburg goals came in the first half as they built a 3-0 cushion less than 30 minutes into play.

Davis scored the game's first tally just 1:03 into action when he took a pass from sophomore Matt Morris from the right side of the box and tapped in his shot from five yards out.

In the eighth minute, Frostburg added to its advantage when Valenzuela headed home a shot off a throw in from freshman Punya Saleekul.

McRobie made it a 3-0 affair at 29:03 with a right-footed shot from the middle of the box that found the back of the net off a pass from Saleekul.

PSA narrowed the deficit with a goal from Seth Murrelle in the 37th minute.

McRobie had a chance to add to the Bobcats' lead with a header at 43:31, but Lion keeper Tanner Yaw saved the shot.

The Bobcats outshot Penn State Altoona 20-10 overall, including a 13-4 advantage in the decisive first half. FSU also had all three of the contest's corner kicks.

Davis and junior Christian Deynes had good chances to add to the Bobcat lead early in the second half, but both of their shots were saved by Yaw. Davis' attempt came at 50:35, while Deynes' shot was at 53:59.

The hosts made the count 3-2 when Erickson Miguel scored on a penalty kick in the 75th minute. However, the Lions didn't register another shot as the Bobcat defense tightened up and held on for the 3-2 win.

Freshman Juan Bofill earned his first career win in net after playing the first half and stopping one shot. Senior Jackson Bicknell played the second stanza and also registered one save.
