CARLISLE, Pa. – Senior goalkeeper Nicole Leighty made 16 saves, but Dickinson put the game away with three second-half goals as the Frostburg field hockey team dropped its season-opening matchup, 4-0.
A number of players made their Bobcat debut in the season opening matchup and freshman Gabby Rachuba led the way with three shots. Leighty's 16 saves mark her third double-digit save performance of her career. She was only three saves away from tying her career-high of 19 set back on October 30, 2015.
The Bobcats began the contest in a flurry, recording two early shots off the stick of juniors Molly Pickard (1:52) and Holly Van Wie (5:54). Dickinson responded with three shots and two penalty corners before scoring the first goal of the game at the 21:27 mark.
Dickinson held the advantage for much of the contest, posting 26 shots with 20 on goal. In addition to the fast start, Frostburg had a stretch of territorial advantage with two corners, but were kept at bay and off the scoresheet by the Dickinson defense.
Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday, September 6 for a road contest at Elizabethtown beginning at 5:00 p.m.
