MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Frostburg senior defensive tackle Niles Scott picked up another preseason award on Tuesday afternoon as the D3football.com 2017 Preseason All-America teams were announced and Scott was named to the second team.
The D3football.com honor is the third this summer for Scott as he was also named to the Street & Smith's Division III All-America First Team and the Lindy's Sports All-Division III Second Team Defense.
An Elkton, Md. native, Scott wrapped up an impressive junior campaign as he finished the season ranked 49th in the nation and third in the New Jersey Athletic Conference in sacks (0.82). He was also 47th nationally and fifth in the league in tackles for loss (1.6).
He totaled 55 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss (85 yds.), 9.0 sacks (64 yds.) with a safety and fumble recovery.
He registered at least one tackle for loss in all 11 games, including five TFLs and 2.5 sacks in Frostburg's 25-18 win over Kean. He also registered a safety in a 24-14 win over Rowan and he posted 1.5 sacks against 22nd-ranked St. John Fisher in the Bobcats' ECAC Bowl Game win.
Following the season, Scott collected a plethora of awards, including D3football.com All-American Honorable Mention honors. He also earned a spot on the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American Second Team, becoming the first Bobcat to be placed on the AFCA team since 2002.
Scott is one of four defensive tackles named to the two D3football.com All-America preseason teams and he is one of three preseason All-Americans from the NJAC.
Frostburg enters the 2017 season ranked 17
th in the D3football.com Top 25 Preseason Poll after finishing last season at 10-1.
