LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2017 Division III All-Region teams and Frostburg junior outfielder Sam Gatton earned a spot on the All-Atlantic First Team, late Monday.
A native of Owings Mills, Md., Gatton was one of 15 student-athletes named to the first team after leading the Bobcats and finishing second in the CAC with a .467 batting average.
Gatton also finished near the top of the CAC statistical boards in runs (31), hits (49), home runs (6), on-base percentage (.500) and slugging percentage (.705).
A First Team All-Capital Athletic Conference honoree, Gatton started 31 games, was a perfect 15-for-15 on stolen base attempts and she reached base safely in all but one game.
As a centerfielder, Gatton posted 51 put outs with just one error for a .981 fielding percentage.
Frostburg earned the No. 2 seed in the CAC Tournament for the first time since joining the league prior to the 2011 campaign. FSU finished the year at 24-15 overall and 11-3 in the conference.
This spring marks the third-straight year that the Bobcats have received an All-Atlantic Region selection and since she was voted to the first team, Gatton is now eligible for the NFCA All-American Team, which will be announced on the evening on May 24.
