FROSTBURG, Md. – Sophomore Morgan Cavey and senior Molly Hart each posted seven points as Frostburg rolled to a lopsided 18-8 win over Southern Virginia, Wednesday.
Cavey and Hart went at things a little differently in the win that pushed Frostburg to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in the CAC.
Cavey finished with five goals and two assists en route to a career-high in goals, while Hart finished with two goals and five assists on the way to her career-high in points.
Four of Cavey's goals came in the second half as the Bobcats turned an 11-3 intermission lead to an 18-8 final score. The Hart and Cavey connection opened the second with a goal at 20:27 and Cavey later found Hart for a goal midway through the second for a 15-5 cushion.
Aside from Cavey's and Hart's efforts, freshman Nikki Hallikas finished with four points behind three goals and one assist and senior Logan Brady contributed three goals.
Hallikas opened the afternoon's action with a goal just 1:07 into play off a pass from Hart for a 1-0 lead. Hart (28:29), Brady (27:37), senior Emani Byrd (27:08) and Cavey (26:39) scored the game's next four goals as Frostburg quickly led by five before four minutes had ticked off the first half clock.
The Bobcats continued that surge with four-straight goals over the next 15 minutes as they built their advantage to 9-0 after senior Jamie Twardowicz scored with 9:50 left.
The Knights (3-11, 0-6) scored three of the final four goals to close the first and narrow their deficit to 10-3 at the half. Zoe Bradshaw scored the final two goals for the visitors inside the final three minutes.
In the middle of the second half, the Bobcats collected a three-goal run starting at 16:39 when Hallikas found freshman Molly Biggers for a goal and a 13-5 lead. Cavey scored an unassisted tally a minute later and Cavey found Hart for a 15-5 edge with 15:23 to play.
Cavey wrapped up the game when she connected with Brady with four seconds left that handed FSU the 18-8 victory.
Senior keeper Dylan Teitelbaum made three saves and held the Knights scoreless in 20:10 of action. Sophomore Abigail McClure and freshman Emalie Mayo also saw time in net and finished with two and three saves, respectively.
Bradshaw led SVU with four goals followed by Claire Houghtaling with three goals.
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday when it visits No. 13 Salisbury at 12:00 pm.
