Tavik Sets Career Hits Record; FSU Splits With Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – Frostburg senior All-American Hannah Tavik captured the career record for hits on Sunday as Frostburg split its CAC doubleheader with rival Salisbury.

Tavik tied the career mark with her 200th hit in game one and set the mark in the night cap. In game one, Tavik's only hit tied the record and was a bloop behind first base, while her record-setting hit in the second was a line drive to center field.

As a team, the Bobcats (14-10, 5-1) picked up a win in the first contest, 7-3, before dropping the second, 1-0. The split keeps Frostburg in second place in the CAC standings, one game behind Christopher Newport.

Junior Allison Short struckout five and surrendered just three earned runs in the first game for her eighth win of the season. She held the Sea Gulls (15-13, 4-2) hitless over the first three innings and Frostburg built a 4-0 lead through three.

The Bobcats got on the board with three runs in the third and tacked on another in the fourth.

Senior Emily Harvey tripled home three runs in the third. Senior Megan Tracey was hit by a pitch, senior Sam Gatton and Tavik received walks and all three scored on Harvey's triple.

In the fourth, junior Brittney Platt scored on a wild pitch for the 4-0 cushion.

Salisbury struck in the home half of the fourth. Mikayla Meehan highlighted the three-run fourth with a two-run double to right center.

Frostburg increased its lead to 7-3 with three more runs in the fifth. Platt singled home Tavik and senior Jessica Dubbs before Zengel singled home freshman Kaitlyn Griffin for the game's final run.

Aside from the three-run fourth, Short allowed Salisbury just one hit over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

In the nightcap, SU scored the game's only run in the third frame. Annie Pietanza knocked a solo home run over the left center fence for the 1-0 victory.

Tavik tossed all 6.0 innings in the circle and endured just her second loss despite holding the Sea Gulls to just six hits and one earned run. She also struckout four.

Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Southern Virginia for a doubleheader at 3:00 pm.
