FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Frostburg State surrendered 12 first-half goals to No. 14 Mary Washington and suffered a 19-7 setback to the Eagles, Wednesday.
UMW (12-4, 5-2 CAC) used an eight-goal run over a five-minute stretch in the first half to grab a 9-1 lead with 13:42 to play.
Mary Washington also opened up the afternoon with the game's first two goals before Frostburg (6-9, 3-4) senior Molly Hart scored on a free position to cut the deficit to 2-1 at 18:36.
Following the 8-0 spurt, Molly Hart and freshman Molly Biggers scored back-to-back goals to narrow Frostburg's deficit to 9-3 at 9:37.
UMW scored three of the final four goals in the half for a 12-4 lead at intermission. Freshman Nikki Hallikas scored Frostburg's final goal of the first with 5:19 to play.
Mary Washington opened the second half with five-consecutive goals for a 17-4 edge with 19:26 showing.
Senior Logan Brady scored off a pass from sophomore Jessica Hartley at 14:09 and senior Megan Hart found classmate Jamie Twardowicz for another goal at 10:50.
The Eagles scored two more before Molly Hart found the net on another free position attempt (4:43) to bring the scoring to a close.
Molly Hart finished with a team-high three goals for the Bobcats, while Hallikas added one goal and one assist. Senior keeper Dylan Teitelbaum notched 18 saves in the loss, her second-best mark of the season.
Emily Mott led Mary Washington with three goals, while Kate Smucker, Allison Davis, Mackenzie Maguire and Holly Hudson each added two goals and one assist.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday when they host St. Mary's on senior day at 1:00 pm.
