WINCHESTER, Va. – The Frostburg State softball team traveled to Shenandoah on Thursday and picked up a split after taking game one of the doubleheader. The Bobcats settle at 5-7 overall on the season.
Game 1
The Bobcats needed an extra inning to take down the Hornets in game one. Neither team scored until Frostburg plated three runs in the top of the eighth for the victory.
Junior Allison Short was solid in the circle as she struckout six batters in 8.0 innings and scattered seven hits. She held Shenandoah hitless over the first two innings and allowed just two runners past second base.

Frostburg finished with eight hits, but couldn't muster any offense until the eighth. Junior Sam Gatton was placed on second to open the inning and she scored when senior Hannah Tavik, the frame's next batter, singled to left field. Senior Emily Harvey tripled to left center that scored Tavik and Brittney Platt hit a sacrifice fly to left that allowed Harvey to come home for the 3-0 final.

A run-producing triple from Janae Hester in the second inning got things going to SU. Two more runs came across in the frame as the hosts led 3-0 after two. In the bottom of the third, Shenandoah tacked on one more to make it 4-0.
FSU cut into its deficit with a three-run sixth inning. Dubbs walked to lead off the inning and scored on a double down the left field line from Gatton. Tavik then tripled home Gatton and sophomore Ali Caulkins singled home Tavik and the Bobcats trailed just 4-3.
After a quick bottom half of the sixth, Frostburg was able to knot the contest at 4-4 in the top of the seventh when Gatton singled home sophomore Olivia Ford.
Shenandoah picked up the win in the home half of the seventh when it scored on an infield error from Frostburg.
Caulkins took the loss in the circle as she fanned two, but allowed four earned runs and 12 hits.
