Baseball Cruises Past Stevenson in Baltimore Invitational

STEVENSON, Md. – The Frostburg State baseball team concluded its third game in as many days with a convincing 13-5 victory over Stevenson in the Baltimore Invitational at Sugar Field Monday afternoon.
 
Frostburg (7-4) racked up 13 runs on 18 hits, including eight runs in the first two innings of the game. Stevenson (3-5) finished with 10 hits, but committed four errors on the afternoon.
 
Senior JT Tipton recorded a career-high five hits, which also ties the Frostburg State single-game school record. Tipton finished the day 5-of-6 (.833) at the plate with three runs scored.
 
Junior Logan Corrigan (1-0) earned his first career win as a Bobcat. Corrigan struck out six in 5.1 innings pitched, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Senior Connor Gorman, sophomore Christan Rivera and junior Dan Ryczek all saw time on the mound in relief.
 
Juniors Kyle Burger and Matt Jeffery finished the day with three RBI each. Senior Brad Garrant and junior Greg Schneider finished the day with two RBI each.
 
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, scoring five runs in the first inning and three in the second.
 
Garrant walked with the bases loaded to score Tipton and give the Bobcats a 1-0 advantage. After the Bobcats posted another run to take a 2-0 lead, Schneider belted a triple to center, plating junior Matt Bougourd and Garrant to put the Bobcats up 4-0.
 
Frostburg added its final run of the first when senior Cody Harman singled home Schneider, making the score 5-0.
 
In the second, Burger drove home Tipton with an RBI double to give the Bobcats a 6-0 edge. Jeffery, the very next batter, singled home Burger to make it 7-0. Jeffery scored the final run of the second inning for the Bobcats after junior Colton Sivic hit a triple to right center.
 
Frostburg added two more runs in the third inning, and scored single runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. Stevenson tallied two runs in the fifth inning, and scored single runs in the second, third and eighth.
 
The Bobcats had nine different players record a hit and six different players with an RBI.
 
Frostburg wraps up the 2017 Baltimore Invitational with a 2-1 record, posting wins against Scranton and Stevenson.
 
The Bobcats will return to action on Wednesday, March 8, opening CAC play against York (Pa.). First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
