UNION, N.J. – The Frostburg State softball team was unable to overcome early deficits in both games and dropped a doubleheader to 18
th-ranked Kean on a cold Sunday afternoon at Cougar Field.
Game One
Frostburg came up short in a 5-1 decision in game one. Senior Emily Harvey finished 3-for-3 at the dish, while senior Jessica Dubbs went 2-for-3 at the plate in game one.
Kean jumped out to an early 2-0 lead through the first three innings.
Senior Hannah Tavik smacked the Bobcats lone run of the game in the fourth inning with a homer to left field. It was Tavik's first homer of the season and brings her career hit total to 195 overall, putting her just five hits away from tying the school's all-time record for hits by a softball player.
Junior pitcher Allison Short (6-4) battled in game one, but got tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on 11 hits in six innings. Kean starter Shannon McMahon (8-0) tossed a complete game and earned the win.
Game Two
Despite three runs in the final two innings, Frostburg (11-9) fell behind early and lost game two 7-3.
Kean (15-1) tallied 13 hits on the day and held a 5-0 lead through five innings in game two.
Harvey put the Bobcats on the scoreboard in the sixth inning with a single to left that scored Dubbs and trimmed the Cougars lead to 5-1.
Junior Brittney Platt delivered for the Bobcats in the seventh inning, notching a two RBI single up the middle that made the score 7-3.
Offensively for the Bobcats, sophomore Olivia Ford went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Plat finished with two RBI. In the circle, sophomore Ali Caulkins (1-4) tossed six innings and allowed seven earned runs with two strikeouts.

Frostburg will return to action on Saturday, April 1 for a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) doubleheader at Wesley. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
