FROSTBURG, Md. – Four players registered four or more points for the Frostburg State women's lacrosse team as it remained perfect in the CAC with a 19-14 win over Marymount at Bobcat Stadium, Saturday.
The win evens the Bobcats overall record at 5-5 and hands them their first 2-0 start in league play since Frostburg joined the conference in 2011.
Seniors Emani Byrd and Jamie Twardowicz, sophomore Morgan Cavey and freshman Nikki Hallikas each posted four or more points on the afternoon.
Twardowicz led the way with an impressive eight points behind three goals and five assists. She scored once in the second half and handed out three assists. Byrd rolled to a career-high five goals all in the first half as she helped the Bobcats to a 10-5 cushion at the break.
Cavey finished second on the team with four goals to go along with one assist, while Hallikas scored three times and had one assist.
Bobcat senior keeper Dylan Teitelbaum stepped up with 16 saves, eight in each half to help keep Marymount from making a run at the FSU lead. Hallikas also paced Frostburg with 12 draw controls, while Teitelbaum paced the roster with five ground balls.
Marymount scored the game's first two goals and jumped out to a 3-1 lead six minutes into action. The Bobcats answered with a run of four-straight scores for a 5-3 advantage. Hallikas started the run with a goal at 23:13, while Byrd followed with two and Twardowicz added one.
Jessica Crew scored two more goals for the Saints (7-3) to knot the game at 5-5, but Frostburg answered again, this time with six-consecutive goals that continued into the second half for an 11-5 lead.
Byrd started the outburst with her fourth goal of the afternoon at 9:51. She scored again at 3:51 and senior Logan Brady found the net with 38 seconds left in the first half for a 10-5 lead. Cavey finished off an assist from senior Megan Hart just 11 seconds into the second half for the 11-5 advantage.
Marymount made one final push to retake the lead when it scored three quick goals over a four-minute stretch to pull to within 11-9. Kellen Cannon scored twice for the Saints during the run.
Frostburg sealed the victory with the game's next five scores for a 16-8 lead. Hallikas later scored back-to-back goals as Frostburg's lead swelled to 18-9 before the 19-14 final.
In total eight different players registered a point for the Bobcats. Senior Megan Hart handed out three assists as senior Molly Hart had two goals. Brady and freshman Molly Biggers each scored once.
Crew led the Saints with five goals, while Abby Wescott had three goals and one assist.
Frostburg hosts No. 8 York (Pa.) this Monday at 7:00 pm.
