Baseball Falls to Ferrum in North Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Frostburg State baseball team surrendered 12 runs to Ferrum in the final two innings of the game, as the Bobcats fell 17-6 Saturday afternoon at J.P. Riddle Stadium in North Carolina.

Frostburg (5-3) scored runs in each of the first three innings and jumped out to a 6-1 lead. The Bobcats scored their six runs on 11 hits.

Ferrum (4-4) had 17 runs on 18 hits with four errors on the afternoon.

Following a lead-off homer from Ferrum, junior Matt Jeffery singled to right center to score junior Jesse Lee. Junior Kyle Burger doubled to right center in the second inning to clear the bases and put the Bobcats in front 4-1. Lee and seniors Brad Garrant and JT Tipton all scored on the play.

In the third, Brad Garrant notched a single to plate juniors Matt Bougourd and Colton Sivic.

Junior Daniel Richardson made the start on the mound and allowed two runs off five hits in four innings pitched. Richardson struck out five and worked the Bobcats out of a jam in the fourth inning, where Ferrum had two runners in scoring position. Including Richardson, the Bobcats threw seven different pitchers in the game.

Ferrum tallied at least one run in six different innings, including four runs in the eighth and eight in the ninth. Jake Martin and Tim Ortega each hit home runs for the Panthers.

Frostburg returns to action on Friday, March 3 against Stevenson. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
