Baseball Falls to No. 2 Cortland in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Frostburg State baseball team began a three-game stretch in the Baltimore Invitational with a 6-3 loss to second-ranked Cortland Saturday afternoon. 

Frostburg (5-4) scored three runs on five hits and opened the game with a 1-0 lead. Cortland (5-1) tallied six runs on 12 hits. 

Junior Matt Bougourd singled home senior Brad Garrant on a 2-2 pitch for the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. 

Junior right-handed pitcher Greg Schneider (2-1) did not allow a run through five innings. He finished the day with eight strikeouts and worked his way out of multiple jams. 

Cortland rallied to score five of its six runs in the sixth inning. 

The Bobcats attempted to claw back, cutting the Red Dragon lead to 5-3. Bougourd reached on a fielder's choice, which scored Garrant. Junior Matt Jeffery grounded to third in the bottom of the eighth to score Garrant. 

Garrant led the Bobcats with three hits, while junior Kyle Burger and Bougourd had one each. 

Cortland added a run in the top of the ninth for the 6-3 final. 

Senior Ryan Callahan pitched 2.1 innings of relief and finished with three strikeouts. 

The Bobcats will return to action tomorrow afternoon against Scranton. First pitch from Stevenson University is set for 2:30 p.m.
