LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Frostburg women's lacrosse team was handed a 16-12 defeat at Lynchburg, Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats (1-1) picked up some mid-game momentum as they scored the final three goals of the first half and the first two in the second half for a 7-6 lead.
Lynchburg (2-0) answered with a run of five-consecutive goals after FSU took the lead and held an 11-7 advantage with 24:00 left in regulation.
Frostburg posted one final challenge for the lead is used a 3-0 run starting at 17:30 and ending at 14:38 as it pulled to within 12-11.
The host Hornets scored four of the game's final five goals for the win.
Senior Alyssa Barlow and sophomore Morgan Cavey led the way offensively for the Bobcats. Barlow started Frostburg's five-goal scoring spurt in the first half with the first two goals at 6:22 and again with just 1:37 to play.
Senior Megan Hart scored the final tally with just 25 seconds left in the first half and Cavey opened the second with a free-position goal that knotted the game at 6-6.
Cavey then found freshman Nikki Hallikas for a goal ay 28:28 as Frostburg grabbed its only lead of the game at 7-6.
Junior Courtney Ridenour (17:30), Megan Hart (14:54) and Cavey (14:38) scored three straight for the Bobcats midway through the second to pull them within one, 12-11.
However, Lynchburg found the net four times from four different players over the final 7:03 to earn the win.
Barlow and Cavey each finished with three goals and an assist, while Megan Hart and Ridenour each scored twice. Sophomore Abigail McClure notched 11 saves in her first career start, while Hallikas led the way with five draw controls.
Alicia Sandoval finished with four goals and an assist for the Hornets, while Laura Meisner posted two goals and two assists.
Frostburg returns home this Saturday when it hosts Randolph-Macon at 2:00 pm.
