FAYETEVILLE, N.C. – The Frostburg State baseball team concluded its weekend trip to Fayetteville with a 12-5 victory over Stevenson Sunday afternoon at J.P. Riddle Stadium.
Frostburg (4-2) scored 12 runs on 16 hits.
Junior Greg Schneider started the game and picked up his first win of the season with six shutout innings. Schneider allowed just four hits and racked up eight strikeouts.
Frostburg scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning, when freshman Myles Lockridge advanced to second base on an error that scored senior Brad Garrant.
Frostburg doubled its lead in the fifth on a single to left from junior Matt Jeffery. Senior Cody Harman advanced to third and scored on an error to put the Bobcats up 2-0. Jeffery finished the day 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Bobcats also added a run in sixth inning to take a 3-0 lead. After a Stevenson run in the seventh, Frostburg tallied nine runs in the eighth inning.
The Bobcats took advantage of three walks, two hit batters and three wild pitches from the Stevenson pitching staff to break the inning open and take a 12-1 lead. A pair of singles from Harman and Jeffery plated three runs to cap the inning.
Stevenson added a run in the bottom of the eighth and three in the ninth inning to make the score 12-5.
Frostburg will return to the field on Saturday, February 25 for a non-conference game against Montclair State. First pitch from J.P. Riddle Stadium in Fayetteville is set for noon.
