FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Frostburg State baseball team rallied from a four-run deficit for a 6-5 walk-off victory against Rutgers-Newark Saturday afternoon at J.P. Riddle Stadium.
Frostburg (3-2) has won three games in a row, while Rutgers Newark (1-1) was handed their first loss of the young season.
Junior Colton Sivic hit the walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to complete the Bobcat comeback. Frostburg was kept off the scoreboard through six innings, but rebounded with one run in the seventh, four in the eighth and one in the ninth.
The Bobcat rally began in the seventh inning on a single from junior Logan Corrigan. Junior Kyle Burger scored on the play to make the score 5-1 in favor of Rutgers-Newark.
Frostburg climbed back into the game with a big eighth inning. Freshman Nick Bass plated junior Matt Jeffery on a single to right. Myles Lockridge scored the Bobcats third run and senior Cody Harman reached first base on an error that scored senior JT Tipton to make the score 5-4.
The Bobcats tied the game when Burger scored on a passed ball.
Junior Lane Ward started the game on the mound. He pitched four innings, allowed three earned runs and struck out eight batters.
Junior Trenton Eirich struck out two allowed two earned runs on five hits in two innings of relief. Junior Mike Takovich struck out three in two no-hit innings of relief.
Junior Tyler Hoffman (1-0) pitched the ninth inning and struck out one to earn the win. Rutgers-Newark senior Vincent Enea (0-1) was tagged with the loss.
Frostburg will wrap up the weekend trip to Fayetteville, N.C, on Sunday, February 18 against Stevenson. First pitch is set for noon
