YORK, Pa. – The Frostburg State women's basketball had three players score in double figures, but could not overcome a hot shooting York (Pa.) squad in a 78-56 road loss Wednesday night at Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
Frostburg (11-13, 9-8) rallied from a first quarter deficit to tie the Spartans (17-7, 11-6) at 26 going into the half, but the hosts responded with 52 second half points.
The Bobcats shot 21-of-62 (33.9%) on the night and 5-of-25 (20%) from three-point range.
Senior guard Kache Fields paced the Bobcats with a team-high 15 points on 7-of-12 (58.3%) shooting. Fields grabbed four rebounds, dished out two assists and had two steals in 39 minutes of action.
Junior guard Sharyce Warren finished the night with 13 points and sophomore Victoria Diggs added 10 points.
Freshman forwards Amanda Emory and Victoria Yoder led the way in rebounding for the Bobcats, grabbing eight and six boards respectively.
Frostburg fell behind 10-0 to start the contest, but battled back throughout the first half. Diggs hit a jumper to give the Bobcats a 22-21 lead with 2:27 remaining in the second quarter. Yoder converted a foul shot to put the Bobcats up two, 26-24, with just 23 seconds left in the half. Frostburg outscored York (Pa.) 18-11 in the second quarter.
After the Spartans began the third quarter with five straight points, Diggs knocked down a three to cut the Spartan lead to one with 4:44 remaining in the third. Frostburg scored 11 more points in the third quarter and went into the final quarter of play trailing by five (45-40).
York (Pa.) took control in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bobcats by 17. Morgan Kuehne notched a game-high 19 points for the Spartans, and Katie Wagner finished with 15.
Frostburg will conclude the 2016-17 regular season on Saturday, February 18 against Salisbury for Senior Day at 1:00 p.m. The Bobcats and Sea Gulls each have an identical 9-8 record in conference play.
