YORK, Pa. – After trailing by just one point at halftime, Frostburg State was outscored 52-39 in the second half and suffered an 86-72 loss at York (Pa.), Wednesday night.
The game was the final regular-season road contest for the Bobcats and they settle at 6-18 overall and 5-12 in the CAC.
Sophomore Edwin Cole led FSU behind a double-double 19 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Daniel Alexander was second on the roster with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while junior Dalton Gaus knocked down three three-pointers and finished with 10 points.
The Spartans (16-8, 12-5) opened the second half on a 12-2 run as they took a 10-point cushion, 48-38, at 15:32. Moments later, York increased its lead to 13 points.
Just past the midway point of the second half, Gaus hit a three-pointer at 9:40 and Cole made a layup at 8:57 as the Bobcats cut their deficit to just eight, 61-53.
York (Pa.) answered with three-consecutive three-pointers to push the lead to 17, 70-53 at 7:35. Matt Scamuffo hit a pair free throws at 3:50 as YCP built its lead to a game-high 19.
Frostburg cut its deficit to 14 at the final horn when freshman Dexter Pelap and Obediah Stith hit layups inside the final minute.
Cole and Alexander connected on baskets at 13:40 and 13:05 in the first half to put Frostburg in the lead by two at 9-7 and 11-9.
Gaus hit a three-pointer at 7:13 followed by baskets from junior Christopher Coston (6:41) and freshman Rhashad Johnson (6:07) as Frostburg built its lead to five, 28-23.
The Spartans bounced back to lead by three until junior Tyler Michael hit a layup with 35 seconds left to pull FSU to within one, 34-33, at intermission.
Scamuffo scored a game-high 26 points for York, followed by 14 from Jared Wagner.
The Bobcats wrap up the regular season this Saturday when they host 11
th-ranked Salisbury for senior day.
