ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Junior guard Sharyce Warren notched 17 points and the Frostburg State women's basketball team came away with an 80-58 road victory in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play Saturday afternoon.
Frostburg, winner of four out of the last five games, improves its record to 11-12 overall and 9-7 in conference. St. Mary's (Md.) drops to 6-17 overall behind a 4-12 mark in conference.
The Bobcats shot 29-of-80 (36.3%) from the field and 8-of-19 (42.1%) from three-point range. The Seahawks shot 19-of-58 (32.8%) from the field and just 7-of-26 (26.9%) from beyond the arc.
Warren was one of five Bobcats to finish the afternoon in double figures. Warren finished the day shooting 7-of-13 (53.8%) from the floor and 3-of-6 (50%) from three-point range. She added six rebounds and two steals in 18 minutes off the bench.
Sophomore guard Victoria Diggs and freshman forward Amanda Emory each finished with 14 points, junior guard Adjowa Pinkrah scored 11 points and freshman forward Sydney Stotler finished with 10.
Senior Kache Fields dished out eight assists, while Emory grabbed nine rebounds to help the Bobcats earn a 47-45 edge on the glass.
Frostburg stormed out of the gate and opened the contest on a 7-0 run. Pinkrah started the game with two jump shots and Diggs converted a three-pointer. Emory converted a layup with 33 seconds left in the first quarter to give the Bobcats a 16-8 lead.
Emory scored seven consecutive points for the Bobcats to begin the second quarter. She converted a layup, hit a three-pointer and knocked down two foul shots in that span to give the Bobcats a 23-12 edge with 8:35 remaining in the half.
Frostburg ended the half on a 13-5 run in the final 4:38 and took a 43-25 lead going into the locker room. The Bobcats outscored the Seahawks 27-15 in the second quarter.
A Diggs three-pointer gave the Bobcats a 19-point lead in the second half with 6:54 left in the third quarter. Warren would make a fast break layup with 3:31 left in the quarter and give FSU a 57-38 lead.
Frostburg maintained its double-digit edge for the entire fourth quarter, and opened up a 22-point lead after a foul shot from sophomore Megan Kelly.
Nina Haller finished with a game-high 19 points for the Seahawks. She also scored her 1000
th-career point in the contest.
Frostburg returns to the court on Wednesday, February 15 for a road contest against York (Pa.). Tipoff for the conference matchup is at 6:00 p.m.
