YORK, Pa. – A balanced scoring attack for the Frostburg State men's basketball team was not enough in a 92-75 setback to York (Pa.) in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play Wednesday night at Wolf Gymnasium.
Frostburg (4-3, 2-1) had five players finish the game in double-figures, led by sophomore Daniel Alexander, who poured in 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting. Senior Dalton Gaus and junior Edwin Cole had 12 points each while senior Tyler Michael scored 11. Sophomore Lawrence Pettis, Jr. rounded out the double-digit scorers for Frostburg with 10 points on the evening.
Overall the quintet combined for 58 of 75 points for the Bobcats.
Alexander and Pettis each dished out a team-high five assists and Michael posted a team-high nine rebounds. Gaus had a game-high four steals and Cole posted the lone block of the evening for the Bobcats.
York (6-0, 3-0) scored 50 of its 92 points in the paint and sank 21-of-34 (61.8%) from the field in the first half to claim 53 points in the opening frame.
One of the differences in the game came at the foul line, where York made 22-of-34 while Frostburg was 13-of-20.
Frostburg started strong and used a Pettis jumper to take a five-point lead (16-11) just about six minutes into the opening half. The Spartans battled back, leading by as many as 21 in the first half before the Bobcats cut the deficit to nine with 11:17 showing on the second half clock.
York was led by Dalton Myers, who pumped in a game-high 28 points, including 20 in the first half. Blayde Reich added 24 and Jared Wagner notched 12 points.
Frostburg returns home to meet St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena. Tipoff is slated for 3:00 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the Bobcat Sports Network.
