Bobcat Women Rebound With Impressive Road Victory

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team posted an impressive 85-58 win on Monday night at Wilson in non-conference action.

Frostburg (5-3) sandwiched a pair of losses around a CAC win last week, but the Bobcats kicked off this week with four starters in double figures as they posted a season-high 85 points and earned their largest margin of victory on the season.

The Bobcats led 33-26 at halftime and used a 52-point explosion in the second half for their first road win of the season.

Junior Megan Kelly led Frostburg in scoring for third-straight contest as she dropped a season-high 19 points, the most in a game since her freshman campaign. She connected on six baskets from the floor, but five of those were from deep and she handed out a team-best six assists.

Sophomore Victoria Diggs nearly matched Kelly's effort with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting with four three-pointers. She also grabbed six rebounds, handed out three assists and stole four passes.

Together, they connected on nine of Frostburg's 11 three-pointers.

Senior Adjowa Pinkrah contributed a season-high 17 points, while sophomore Sydney Stotler shot 7-of-8 from the field for 14 points to go along with six rebounds.

The Bobcats' second-half surge came from 51.5 percent shooting from the field as well as 8-of-14 three-point attempts (57.1%) and 10-of-13 (76.9%) foul shots.

Aside from the game's opening bucket, Frostburg never trailed and it built its lead to 13, 26-13, midway through the second as Diggs hit a jumper in the paint. Kelly connected on a three-pointer minutes later as the Bobcats led 29-17.

The Phoenix (3-3) were able to narrow their halftime deficit to just seven, 33-26, but the second half was a different story for Frostburg.

Kelly opened the third with a three-pointer and she hit another shot from beyond the arc at 5:53 as Frostburg's lead once again hit double digits, 44-33.

Stotler gave the visitors a 14-point edge, 57-43, with a jumper with two seconds left in the third.

Diggs and Kelly hit three-pointers to open the fourth and the Bobcats had it on cruise control from that point on. Diggs hit a three-pointer with just over three minutes left for a 73-53 lead. Kelly hit the game's final three-pointer at 2:06 as the Bobcats led 77-53.

First-year Brittany Davis hit a free throw with four seconds left to give Frostburg a 30-point cushion at 85-55.

Ashley Henderson led Wilson with 16 points, while Lindsey Purvis scored 10.

Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday at York (Pa.) at 6:00 pm.
