Women’s Basketball Opens Conference Play with Double-Digit Win

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team raced to a convincing 66-55 victory over Penn State Harrisburg in the team's Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) opener Wednesday night at Bobcat Arena.

Frostburg (4-2, 1-0) drained eight three-pointers and shot 40% from beyond the arc. The Bobcats used a balanced scoring effort with three players wrapping up the evening in double-figures.
 
Frostburg shot 39.7% (23-of-58) from the floor and recorded an assist on 19 of those makes, while Penn State Harrisburg (1-5, 0-3) committed 18 turnovers and shot just 36.4% (4-of-11) from the foul line.
 
Junior guard Megan Kelly led the charge offensively with a team-high 17 points. Kelly finished the night 6-of-12 from the floor and knocked down five three-pointers while adding four assists, three rebounds, two steals and one block in 32 minutes. Tonight's scoring output is the third double-digit game for Kelly in the last four contests.
 
Senior Adjowa Pinkrah chipped in 11 points with four rebounds and four assists while junior forward Amber Downey was an inside force off the bench with a season-high 11 points. Downey also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in 19 minutes of action.
 
 Sophomore forward Amanda Emory notched eight points, while sophomores Sydney Stotler and Victoria Diggs added seven points each. Senior guard Sharyce Warren rounded out the Bobcat's balanced scoring effort with five points.
 
Frostburg opened the game on an 8-0 run with a pair of baskets from Pinkrah and one from Kelly. Two jumpers from Emory and Stotler put the Bobcats up 17-8 with 2:48 remaining in the first quarter.
 
A Downey jumper at 8:09 in the second put the Bobcats up 21-14 but the Lions roared back and took a 25-23 lead with 1:47 left in the half. Warren knocked down a three to put the Bobcats back in front, 26-25, with 1:30 left in the half and Emory closed the frame with a pair of baskets to put the hosts up 30-27 at intermission.  
 
A Warren layup allowed the Bobcats to open up a seven-point edge (42-35) with 4:29 left in the third and Frostburg closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 50-40 lead heading into the final quarter.
 
Pinkrah led the Bobcats on a 4-0 scoring run with a layup and two foul shots for a 59-45 lead with 3:42 left in the game. Kelly hit her final three of the evening at 1:03 in the fourth and Diggs iced the victory with four foul shots.
 
Tessa Dolce had 20 points for the Lions and Janel Brown had 14.
 
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday for a conference road matchup against No. 2 Christopher Newport at 2:00 p.m.
