SALISBURY, Md. – The Frostburg State field hockey team dropped a CAC matchup at No. 7 Salisbury, Sunday afternoon, 7-0.
The Sea Gulls (7-3, 1-1) found the net four times in the opening half and added three goals in the second stanza. Emily Lemanski led SU's scoring effort with three goals.
Bobcat sophomore keeper Sierra Smizer notched a career-high 15 saves in just over 46 minutes of action. In the 42nd minute, Salisbury was awarded a penalty corner that ultimately resulted in four shots over a nine-second span. Smizer was up for the challenge and kicked away all four attempts from the Gulls.
Smizer later turned away three more Salisbury attempts in less than a minute span starting at 49:50.
In the first half, Bobcat freshman Brooke Lafayette posted her first career defensive save as she stopped a shot from the left side.
On attack, freshman Sam Coffey registered FSU's first shot on goal at 30:52, forcing keeper Tressie Windsor to make a save.
In the second half, junior Molly Pickard had a shot on goal off a penalty corner saved at 43:24 and Frostburg's third shot on goal of the afternoon came off the stick of junior Samantha Schaffer at 56:15 that was also turned away.
The Bobcats return to action next Sunday when they face 10
th-ranked Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va. at 12:00 pm
