Bobcats Eliminated From CAC Tournament At UMW

Fredericksburg, Va. - Junior Alferid Kemal pulled the Bobcats to within a goal of Mary Washington on the stroke of halftime, but Frostburg State was unable to complete the comeback as it fell to the third-seeded Eagles in the first-round of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The loss brings the season to a close for the sixth-seeded Bobcats, who finish the 2017 campaign with an overall record of 6-11-2. The CAC Tournament appearance was Frostburg's third in the last four seasons.

The Eagles opened the scoring in the 19th minute of action off of a free kick that was put home by Ryan Van Maanen. Joshua Everard doubled the UMW lead in the 33rd minute when he beat FSU first-year keeper Juan Bofill to make it 2-0.

Bofill collected five saves on the afternoon.

Kemal cut the Mary Washington lead in half in the 45th minute when he placed a shot past the Eagles keeper Matt Spencer to make it 2-1 with 45 minutes left to play.

The Bobcats totaled nine shots on the afternoon, four of which called Spencer into action.

FSU couldn't find the back of the net in the second half and UMW would get on the board one more time in the 58th minute to bring the final tally to 3-1.

Mary Washington will advance to the CAC semifinals and face St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday, November 1.
