Bobcat Men Claim Sixth Seed

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team finished its regular season with a 3-0 shutout win over Southern Virginia Wednesday night and claimed the sixth-seed in the 2017 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Bobcats will open tournament play Saturday at third-seed Mary Washington at 2:00 p.m.

Frostburg enters the CAC Tournament with a 6-10-2 overall record while 4-5 in conference play. Sophomore Josh McRobie leads the Bobcats in scoring with five goals and one assist, while sophomore K.J. Davis is second with three goals.

On defense, Frostburg State has limited opponents to a 1.64 goals against average with five shutouts. First-year Juan Bofill ranks fifth in the conference with 50 saves.

Mary Washington holds a 12-4-1 overall record heading into the tournament and a 7-2 record in league play.  Jeremy Hokenson paces Mary Washington with 19, points scoring seven goals and five assists. In goal, Matt Spencer has made 48 saves holding a 1.02 goals against average.

In the regular season, Frostburg and Mary Washington met on October 4th and the Bobcats lost a narrow 1-0 match on a late penalty kick at Mary Washington. Gary Foley scored the penalty kick in the 80th minute to give Mary Washington the win.

Christopher Newport captured the tournament's top seed for the second straight year after finishing with an 8-0-1 league record and a 13-2-1 overall record. St. Mary's (Md.) is the second seed after a 7-2 conference record and an 11-6 overall record. Both teams have earned a first-round bye and will host a semifinal match on Wednesday November 1.

Finishing third in the regular-season CAC standings was Mary Washington.

Claiming the fourth and fifth seed is York (Pa.) (7-8-2, 5-3-1) and Salisbury (8-8-2, 4-3-2) while Frostburg sits as the sixth seed.

Salisbury visits York on Saturday and the winner will advance to face St. Mary's, while the winner of Mary Washington and Frostburg will visit CNU.

The winner of the 2017 CAC Tournament will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
