BUENA VISTA, Va. – The late-season narrative for the Frostburg women's soccer team has largely remained the same over the last few weeks and Wednesday's CAC win in its regular-season finale wasn't much different.
Sophomore Brooke Shehade scored the game's only goal in the first half and the Bobcats held onto that 1-0 lead until the final horn.
The victory is the fifth-straight for the Bobcats (8-7-2, 7-1-1) as they continue to build momentum for the upcoming CAC Tournament.
After opening the season at 1-6 overall, the Bobcats have come roaring back with a 7-1-2 record down the stretch with their last four wins all coming via shutout.
Over the last four contests, Frostburg has outscored its opponents 7-0 and hasn't surrendered a goal in over 400 minutes of action dating back to Oct. 11.
The win over the Knights (6-9-2, 3-5-1) also clinched the second seed in the tournament for the second-straight season for Frostburg and it will have a first-round bye before hosting the semifinals next Wednesday at a time to be determined. The Bobcats will host the winner of #3 Salisbury and #6 Penn State Harrisburg.
While the Bobcats are riding a five-game winning streak, Shehade has collected her own streak as she has found the net in each of the last five games with game-winning goals in each of the last three contests.
She has scored seven goals dating back Oct. 11 and has twice been named the CAC's Offensive Player of the Week.
On Wednesday night, she connected on a shot from 25 yards out off a pass from junior Hailey Turney for a 1-0 lead in the 34
th minute. Frostburg was outshot on the evening 12-9 and junior keeper Emily Faust did her part to keep the winning streak intact. She notched six saves, three in each half, for her sixth win of the fall.
A full preview of the CAC Tournament semifinal game at Frostburg will be available early next week.
