Field Hockey Drops Conference Match at UMW

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Mary Washington was too much for the Bobcats from the start, as the Frostburg field hockey team fell 12-1 in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) match Thursday afternoon at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
 
Frostburg falls to 4-12 overall and 0-4 in league play.
 
UMW (9-6, 2-2) scored seven goals in the first half and ripped 32 shots on the day, with 24 hitting the cage.
 
The tandem of junior forward Samantha Schaffer and senior midfielder Ivy Meissner led the Bobcats offensively with two shots each. Schaffer scored her first goal of the season at 67:41 t get the Bobcats on the board.
 
Junior Holly Van Wie dished out her second assist of the season on the Bobcats lone tally of the day, giving her a team-high 12 points.  
 
Overall, Frostburg mustered five shots on the afternoon with four on goal and earned three penalty corners.
 
Senior keeper Nicole Leighty made five saves in the first half and sophomore Sierra Smizer made five saves in the second half in relief.
 
Izzy Scholz and Morgan LaRowe led the way for the Eagles with two goals each. 
 
Frostburg returns to home this Sunday when they host CAC foe Wesley for Senior Day at noon.
