Bobcats Shutout Marymount (Va.) 3-0

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Frostburg State women's soccer team scored three first half goals en route to a 3-0 shutout victory over Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe Marymount (Va.) Saturday evening.

The Bobcats (5-7-2, 4-1-1) recorded their third shutout of the season and outshot Marymount (2-9-2, 1-5) 26-4 with 13 shots coming in the first half and eight on-goal.

Frostburg State's first goal came at 15:50, as senior Melanie Bell found junior Danielle Ferris on a cross pass and Ferris put the ball past Marymount's goalkeeper Sydney Sherman to take a 1-0 lead.

Junior Hailey Turney put the Bobcats up 2-0 at 30:00 with a goal off a corner kick that was kicked around the 18-yard box before Turney found the back of the net. First-year Helen Francis was credited with the assist.

Just one minute and 48 seconds later, sophomore Brooke Shehade received a through ball from Turney and put the ball in the back of the goal to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.

Frostburg State maintained its 3-0 lead at the half. It is the third time this season that the Bobcats have scored three or more goals in a game.

The Bobcats were unable to obtain a second half goal, but the three first-half goals were enough to get the victory. Sophomore Gwen Schemm led the team in shots with seven.

Frostburg State had six corner kicks for the game, five of them coming in the first half.

First-year goalkeeper Jenny Bullers finished with two saves, as Marymount (Va.) was only able to generate four shots in the second half.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday as they travel to CAC opponent Penn State Harrisburg at 3:00 p.m.
