Men’s Basketball Rally Falls Short Against Wesley

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team was unable to complete a second half rally in an 84-77 defeat against Wesley in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.
 
Frostburg (4-15, 3-9) outscored Wesley (8-11, 6-6) 49-36 in the second half and shot 30-of-87 (34.5%) from the floor overall.
 
Freshman Daniel Alexander collected his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Alexander added five assist and one steal in 29 minutes.
 
Junior Tyler Michael notched his first double-double of the year with a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds. It was Michael's 17th game in double figures on the season as he added three assists and one steal in 33 minutes of action.
 
Freshman guard Lawrence Pettis, Jr. was the third Bobcat player in double figures with 16 points on 5-of-15 (33.3%) shooting.
 
Wesley closed the first half with a 9-2 run and took a 48-28 edge into the locker room.
 
The Bobcats went on an 11-0 scoring run in the second half to cut the deficit to 13 points with 14:19 remaining. A layup from junior Gregory Gibbs cut the Frostburg deficit to single digits with 10:06 left.
 
Pettis, Jr. converted a three-point play with a layup and foul shot to make the score 63-59 Wesley with 5:59 left in the game.
 
Frostburg continued its run and junior Christopher Coston converted a dunk to pull the Bobcats within three (69-66) with 3:53 remaining.
 
Wesley sealed the game at the foul line, shooting 28-of-36 (77.8%) overall, including some key makes in the final minutes of the game. The Wolverines shot 23 of their 36 foul shots in the second half.
 
Brian Cameron scored a game-high 26 points for the Wolverines. Paul Clemons had 18 points and Evan Anderson finished with 17.
 
Frostburg will continue CAC play on the road against Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, February 1 at 8:00 p.m.
