FROSTBURG, Md. – Four players scored in double figures and Frostburg attempted a second-half rally before falling short in a 77-66 loss to Marymount in CAC action, Wednesday evening.
Marymount (9-9, 6-5) opened the second stanza on a 12-1 run as it tried to run away from host Frostburg (4-14, 3-8).
Brandon Rogers hit a layup for the Saints at 10:01 for a 16-point cushion, 58-42, before the Bobcats' answer.
FSU put together a quick 9-0 scoring jolt over the next two minutes that trimmed the deficit to just seven, 58-51. Junior Tyler Michael hit a driving layup in the paint at 9:35 to start the run and freshman Rhashad Johnson connected on two free throws (8:48) and a layup (8:19) that pulled the Bobcats to within seven.
Ladrius McCord and Johnson traded three-pointers on the ensuing possessions as Frostburg kept the score within seven.
Over the next 4:24, MU posted eight-straight points to push its lead back to 15 at 69-54. Johnson stopped the run with a three-pointer at 3:04 and he hit two foul shots inside the final minutes to bring Frostburg within nine, 75-66.
Marymount sealed the win with two late free throws.
Freshmen Lawrence Pettis, Jr. and Daniel Alexander gave Frostburg a pair of early leads in the opening minutes of the first half. Michael flushed a dunk at 13:39 and sophomore Edwin Cole hit a jumper at 13:18 as FSU led by two, 14-12.
Later in the half, Alexander hit a jumper with 5:53 showing and hit another jumper 30 seconds later to give the Bobcats another two-point cushion, 26-24.
The Saints rebounded with a pair of five-point leads late in the half before Taiga Walker hit a layup to give the visitors a 37-33 lead at the break.
Johnson led all players with 16 points to go along with three assists and three steals. Darren Campbell led three starters in double figures, followed by Michael with 12 and Alexander with 10. Cole pulled down 11 rebounds.
Marymount finished with four starters in double figures as Dimitri Rucker and Michael Anderson each finished with 14 points.
The Saints outrebounded Frostburg 47-37 and turned 20 offensive boards into 22 second-chance points.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday when they host Wesley at 3:00 pm.
