WINCHESTER, Va. – Behind two first half goals from sophomore Serigne Gueye and junior Rodrigo Valenzuela, the Frostburg State men's soccer team netted a convincing 4-1 victory over Shenandoah in non-conference action Monday night.
Frostburg (5-5) continued to rack up big offensive numbers, outshooting Shenandoah (0-8), 15-11. The Bobcats also held a 7-2 advantage in corners through the 90 minutes.
For Frostburg, the match was the fifth multi-goal output on the season.
Gueye scored the first goal of the game at the 9:23 mark. Frostburg struck again in the 30
th minute when Valenzuela scored his fourth goal of the year to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead.
Shenandoah would respond in the 40
th minute when Connor Gordon cut the Frostburg lead in half with a goal to make it a 2-1 game.
Frostburg would pull away late in the second half with goals in the 78
th and 83
rd minutes. Sophomore Kelvin Tata scored to make it 3-1 and sophomore Carvell Akuffo tallied the final goal of the game to give the Bobcats a 4-1 advantage.
In addition to scoring the final two goals, Akuffo and Tata paced the Bobacts with four shots each.
Senior goalie Hassan Mostafa allowed a goal and made two saves on the night, while sophomore Ryan Zovko made six saves.
Frostburg will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 3:30 p.m. against St. Mary's (Md.) in a CAC contest.
